This article covers sensors that pair successfully and then drop out part-way through a session. If a sensor will not connect at all, start with the connection steps in V2 Sensor Commonly Asked Questions.
A sensor can only talk to one device at a time
This is the most common cause in busy weight rooms with several tablets in use.
If another device pairs to a sensor, it disconnects from yours. You will see this on the sensor itself: a slow blue flash means it is connected to something, while a fast blue flash means it is free to pair.
If a sensor keeps vanishing mid-session, check whether a coach or athlete on another tablet has picked it up.
Set up by station
The most reliable setup in a multi-rack environment is to assign sensors to fixed stations - rack 1, rack 2, and so on - so that each tablet always connects to the same sensor and athletes know where each one lives.
Labelling the sensors and the racks to match takes ten minutes and prevents most accidental pairing conflicts.
Check the distance
The sensor has a range of approximately 10 metres from the host device.
If athletes are moving through that range during a set - throws, sled work, jumps away from the rack - position the tablet roughly in the middle of the area being used rather than at one end.
Check permissions and versions on the device
Drop-outs that affect one tablet but not the others usually point at the device.
• Bluetooth on, and the Capture app permitted to use it
• On Android, location or GPS permission enabled, as Bluetooth scanning depends on it
• The Capture app up to date — see How to update your Capture App
• The device's own operating system up to date
• Battery saver or power saving mode switched off, as it can suspend Bluetooth in the background
Check the sensor battery
A sensor flashing red is at around 10% and will drop out shortly. If sensors are reaching that point mid-morning, see Sensor won't turn on, won't charge, or is losing charge quickly.
A sensor that disappears completely
If a sensor stops appearing in the pairing list on any device, and a full charge does not bring it back, stop troubleshooting and contact us.
